ABOUT US

Trohanny Cottage is a authentic pre-famine thatched cottage and farmstead situated in the rural picturesque village of Moynalty near the historic town of Kells, Co. Meath in Ireland.

As the custodian of this unique piece of Irish history,  I'm Áine, I live onsite with my family and our mini menagerie of 4 legged friends known as "The Welcoming Committee" and whatever type of rescue animal happens to wander in.

The cottage has a fascinating history dating back to pre-famine times (see the blog section for more details).  Previously owned by the McMahon family, myself and my late husband Joe purchased it in 2000.   We spent a number of years restoring it from what was once dilapidated and inhabitable to a beautiful Irish vernacular stone cottage.

Sadly, there are fewer and fewer thatched cottages left in Ireland mainly because they are so expensive to maintain.  In order to preserve this special cottage and it ensure its survival,  we made the decision in 2018 to open up our home & its grounds to guests for tours & breathwork sessions.

I would love you to join us on our journey - past and present - with tails and tales of the two and four legged at Trohanny Cottage.

My Story

Empower
Growth

Hi I'm Áine,

The custodian of Trohanny Cottage and it's menagerie of horses, donkeys, cats and dogs.

Originally from Dublin, I spent nearly two decades as a dental nurse and accommodation host before fully embracing my love for animals, nature, and holistic well-being.

I am trained to Advanced level in breathwork coaching and qualified as an Equine specialist in the Eagala method of Equine therapy. I have also studied mindfulness and meditation techniques including heart math and incorporate these into my sessions.

My dream was to combine some of my greatest passions my horses, my love of nature and my breathwork teaching and share them with others.

I hope to create a peaceful, rejuvinating space where people can reconnect with themselves through the presence of horses and Nature or embraced inside the special energy of Trohanny Cottage.

I look forward to welcoming you here to spend time with us

Grá agus Solas,

Áine & The Welcoming Committee of Trohanny Cottage
