My grandmother was a Fox

before she married

Red bushy hair and a bristling nature

Sharp of tongue and lacking in patience

But Oh how soft her heart.

Telling stories as we walked the boreen roads

her arms crooked behind her back

whistling a tune as I skipped along side her

The smell of turf in my nostrils

the rushy grass at my feet.

I saw three foxes today on my travels

On different parts of the road

The first felt nice but normal

The second a pleasant surprise

The third was definitely a message

as it looked me straight in the eyes
